Case Study: Providing an Improved Customer Experience

Headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, The Weitz Company is one of the oldest and most highly regarded construction companies in the United States. Today, 2,500 employees generate over $1.5 billion in revenue annually, constructing office buildings, malls, schools, hotels, military installations, industrial plants, parking structures, resorts, and golf courses.

Despite this success, Weitz Chairman, President and CEO Craig Damos was not content to stand pat. And he engaged ConvergencyPartners to help change the Weitz delivery model so that it provided a better customer experience.
To gain across-the-board buy-in, ConvergencyPartners suggested a far-reaching process that involved many leaders outside corporate headquarters.

As a result, Weitz now has a five-year quality plan, a conceptual framework for its new corporate structure, and a new Chief Revenue Officer. The company also went from about 11 vertical businesses to a market segment focus, regional build, and shared services approach. Finally, it began creating a process to accomplish the things on its “to do” list in the most efficient way possible.
